William Hohenstein, Director, USDA Global Change Program Office

William Hohenstein is the Director of USDA's Global Change Program Office, providing coordination and policy development support for the Department's global change program. Before becoming the Director of USDA's Global Change Program Office, Mr. Hohenstein served as a Division Director in EPA's National Center for Environmental Economics. Mr. Hohenstein represents the United States at international negotiations and meetings on climate change. Mr. Hohenstein has a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Cook College, Rutgers University and a Master's in Resource Economics from Duke University. Mr. Hohenstein is also a former SAF Policy Intern, serving in that capacity in the Spring of 1987.

USDA Activities to Address Climate Change
Mr. Hohenstein will provide an overview of the projected impacts of climate change on forests and natural resources. He will also present information on the role of deforestation and agricultural practices in contributing to the build up of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere. Mr. Hohenstein will discuss current USDA programs and actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon sequestration. Mr. Hohenstein will focus on USDA's development of new accounting rules and guidelines for reporting greenhouse gas emissions reductions and carbon sequestration. The new system was developed for use in the Department of Energy's Revised 1605b Voluntary Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting Program.
