Society of American Foresters 2008 National Convention: Networking, Learning and Fun!

Woven through SAF's 2008 National Convention are fun and focused special events and opportunities where you'll experience the rich diversity of the forestry profession with friends, colleagues and new contacts important to you and your future.

Review and select from this menu of opportunities to enjoy and profit from your SAF 2008 National Convention participation. Many worthy investments wait you.

*November 5-Wednesday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm; User group Meetings. Every year the Department of Defense foresters and natural resource managers gather to focus on management strategies, success stories and new technologies used to manage forest land on DOD instillations. These group meetings are free and open for anyone to sit in.

*November 5-Wednesday 5:30 to 7:00 pm; President's Welcome and Reception, Exhibit Hall and Poster Session is open to all participants and is a very popular part of our Convention tradition. It is filled with many networking and learning opportunities. It's one of the best opportunities to meet and greet as well as to take your first walk thru the Exhibits and Poster Session areas to map out those you want to spend some time at while attending the Convention. Meet forestry and SAF leaders as well as old friends and colleagues.

*November 5 through 7; At refreshment and lunch breaks stroll the Exhibit Hall to browse and visit with any eye towards "what's new" and "what information is being shared" that will help you in your work and career. Many new technologies and research projects are exhibited to keep you up to date.

*November 5 through November 7; Forester's Fund and Science Fund. These activities help participants donate to worthy causes that advance the field of forestry, natural resources management and research. Visit these outstanding booths to see the creative donations awaiting your interest and consider buying a raffle ticket or making a purchase.

*November 6 Thursday 5 pm to 6 pm; The Diversity Reception. Celebrate the importance of diversity in the Society of American Foresters and the forestry profession. Network with your peers from across America.

*November 6 Thursday 7 pm to 9:00 pm; Alumni Receptions. This is where you can reconnect with those colleagues and professors who helped you enter the forestry profession. You'll enjoy telling stories! Catch up with what's ahead for your alma mater. You'll be surprised and enjoy reliving where you've been and what you've done.

*November 7 Friday 12:30 am to 3:00 pm; Job Fair. This is where employers and job seekers can come together to explore employment opportunities including on-site employers interviews for job openings and opportunities. It is popular and successful.

*November 7 Friday 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm; Don't Miss "Friday Night at the Comstock". At this Convention premier event, travel back and relive the "Gold Rush Days" of mining, lumbering and ranching in an authentic setting. Western attire encouraged but not required.. Come join in the fun!!

*November 8 Saturday 7:30 am to 9:00 am; Morning Round Tables. These round tables expand your network and catch up with colleagues who have similar interests. Choose among one of eight business roundtables. (breakfast is not included, nor available for purchase in the meeting rooms). The round tables to select from are: a) forestry industry, b) State, Local, and Tribal Forestry, c) Forestry Consultants, Certification and Auditing, d) U.S. Forest Service, e) Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO's), f) Academia and g) Faculty Advisors. These "Round Tables" are free and open for anyone to attend.

*November 8 Saturday 11:00 am to 1:00 pm; "Lunch with Leaders". Another SAF tradition, this is an event where a diverse group of experienced, well respected leaders share their wisdom., lessons learned and advice.
